Applications Open for Fall 2024 Student Artist-in-Residence

Now in its fourth semester, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hosts a student artist-in-residence to create original artwork depicting a myriad of holidays and cultural and heritage celebrations on our social media accounts. By allowing artists to interpret these observances, we provide a platform for creative expression, elevating student voices while highlighting the diverse beliefs and celebrations of the University community.

The artist-in-residence will:

  • be paid to create approximately 6-10 unique graphics for use on @UMichDiversity social media accounts (Instagram and X). Graphics will be needed between September and December.
  • design works through a unique vision and perspective, while also incorporating the University of Michigan’s timeless branding (colors, etc.).
  • include a written artist statement with each piece, sharing an interpretation and/or reflection on the artistic approach to the holiday.
  • build a portfolio of work that will be shared and represented on University social media accounts and websites.

Some examples of observances include Lunar New Year, Women’s History Month, Pride, and Ramadan. A general familiarity with a diverse range of holidays is preferred but not required. Artwork can be created in any medium, but must be submitted in a high-resolution, digital format.

To apply, please submit a resume and an example of three original artworks, as well as a brief statement about what makes you uniquely qualified for the artist-in-residence position in ODEI.

Applications are due by Sunday, August 25th.
