The University of Michigan’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is seeking a creative and innovative student artist to design original web graphics, highlighting the diverse array of observances and beliefs held by student, faculty and staff across the University of Michigan campus.

The University’s DEI social media accounts (@UMichDiversity) acknowledge and commemorate many holidays, cultural heritage events and celebrations throughout the year. The student artist-in-residence will support these efforts through their creative lens throughout the winter 2023 semester.

The artist-in-residence will:

  • be paid to create approximately 15-20 unique graphics throughout Winter 2023 for use on @UMichDiversity social media accounts (Instagram and Twitter).
  • design works through a unique vision and perspective, while also incorporating the University of Michigan’s timeless branding (colors, etc.).
  • build a portfolio of work that will be shared and represented on University social media accounts and websites.

Some examples of observances include Lunar New Year, Women’s History Month, Pride, and Ramadan. A general familiarity with a diverse range of holidays is preferred but not required. Artwork can be created in any medium, but must be submitted in a high-resolution, digital format.

To apply, please submit a resume and an example of three original artworks, as well as a brief statement about what makes you uniquely qualified for the artist-in-residence position in ODEI.

Applications are due by Wednesday, November 30. The selected artist will be notified before the end of December and will be provided with additional information.
