Background
The 2018 Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Summit was held during the week of October 8-12, 2018. An estimated 1,000 students, faculty, and staff attended the Community Assembly & Discussion on the morning of October 8 at the Power Center, featuring a video montage of DEI units and events from across campus, remarks by senior leaders, a progress update on the DEI Strategic Plan, our keynote speaker/conversation, and student performances. There was also a Student Meet & Greet Reception with Diane Guerrero immediately following the Community Assembly & Discussion.
Other central events throughout the week were hosted by Student Life, the President’s Committee on Sexual Misconduct, CEW+, and Voices of the Staff. Current Year: 2019 DEI Summit
The annual (DEI) Summit will occur during October 2019. In response to feedback from DEI Leads across campus, this year’s Summit will be held over the entire month (rather than for a week), starting with the Community Assembly on Monday, October 7, 2019 (tentatively @ Hill Auditorium) and other central events taking place weekly throughout the month.
Role of Student Advisory Planning Group
The purpose of the Student Advisory Planning Group (SAPG) is to draw student attendance to the 2019 DEI Summit’s Community Assembly by providing critical input, feedback, and assistance with program content, student engagement, and marketing strategies. Our goal is for the Community Assembly to reflect students’ interests and experiences, as well as our institutional DEI mission, and inspire and motivate the campus community to continue its progress toward DEI.
SAPG members will attend 7 monthly meetings from February-May and August-October. Each meeting will be about 2 hours in length and will include dinner. Meetings will be staffed and facilitated by Dr. Mary Rose, Program Manager in the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Provost’s Office.
Approximately 12-15 students will be selected to participate; the contributions of these members will be publicly acknowledged at the 2019 DEI Summit’s Community Assembly and on the ODEI website.

Application Process
To be considered for the 2019 DEI Summit: Student Advisory Planning Group, please submit your résumé and a 1-2 page cover letter that addresses the following 4 questions:
- Reflecting on the 2018 Community Assembly & Discussion, what worked well and what would you suggest for improvement?
- What skills, values, experiences, and/or perspectives would you bring to the SAPG? Please provide at least one example or experience to illustrate your
- What kind of content or strategies would draw students to the 2019 Community Assembly?
- Please provide the contact information for at least one student and one faculty/staff who can provide a character or professional reference for you (i.e., minimum of 2 references).
